Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion
This page is NOT for challenging the outcome of deletion discussions or to address the pending deletion of any page.
Requests for undeletion is a process intended to assist users in two cases. The first case is restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria (such as maintenance deletions (G6) or stale Articles for creation drafts (G13)), or in deletion debates with little or no participation other than the nominator. In the second use case, this page is also intended to serve as a central location to request that deleted content be "userfied", i.e., restored as a draft or emailed to you; this way, the content can be improved upon prior to re-insertion into the mainspace, or used elsewhere (you may also make a request directly to one of the administrators listed here). Be clear as to which namespace is intended, when requesting the restoration of a deleted article.
This means that content deleted after discussion – through deletion processes – may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process but through deletion review instead. Copyright violations and attack pages will not be provided.
Do not request that pages or media deleted under speedy deletion criteria F7, F9, F11, U5, A7, A9, A11, G3, G4, G10, G11 or G12 be undeleted here.
Instructions for special cases:
- G13. Abandoned Drafts and Articles for creation submissions – see Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion/G13 for instructions.
- For JavaScript .js or .css pages, please request on the Wikipedia:Interface administrators' noticeboard.

Draft:David T. Warner
[edit]Hi, I'm FloridaArmy, and I would like to request the undeletion of this draft deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page so that I can make edits to it. Thank you. FloridaArmy (talk) 00:12, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
Declined pending further information. This was undeleted over six months ago with a pledge that it would be worked on, but no edits were made to improve the entry for resubmission. Draft space is not an indefinite hosting service for material found to be unsuitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia's article mainspace. We may be willing to restore it again, but only if you provide a definite assurance that you actually intend to work on it and provide a short description of what you intend to do to improve it to meet our policies and guidelines. Please advise. Jay 💬 07:25, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- I requested undeletion so I can work on it. I have time now but it's still deleted. And frankly I believe notability is already established so feel free to take it to a proper AfD discussion if you don't think this author and filmmaker is notable. FloridaArmy (talk) 19:37, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

Hi, could you please userfy this deleted article so that I can see the edit history? From the AfD discussion it sounds like the article content wasn't good but I think the organization itself is notable/deserves an article. Prezbo (talk) 11:09, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Prezbo:
Not done – this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Just Detention International, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, Randykitty (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review. UtherSRG (talk) 11:53, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- To clarify, I'm not asking for undeletion, I'm asking for the deleted article to be moved to my userspace so I can work on it there. I thought it was pretty routine for people to request that here? Prezbo (talk) 11:59, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Anyway, I recreated the article with new content...presumably there's a way to merge the histories if an admin feels like doing that. Prezbo (talk) 18:53, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- I understood what you were asking for. You should still ask the deleting admin about it. You should also not have recreated the article. It was deleted by discussion. You disagree with the discussion. Recreating it is not acceptable. Talk to the deleting admin and/or go to DRV as I originally directed you to do. I ask that you {{db-author}} the article. - UtherSRG (talk) 20:52, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- I think it's fine. If you really want it gone I'm sure there's some recourse available to you. Prezbo (talk) 20:54, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

Distributed Application Specification Language
[edit]Enter your reasoning here and then click the "Publish changes" button —Nissenbenyitskhak (talk) 20:08, 3 April 2025 (UTC) As one of the 4 inventors/creators of DASL at Sun Microsystems, I object to having the article my colleagues and I wrote for Wikipedia being deleted. Our work on DASL was published in the public domain by Sun Microsystems Laboratories, the research arm of Sun Microsystems until it was acquired by Oracle.
We are aware that another lab reused our acronym (DASL) for their language. Sun did not copyright the name. That is not a reason to delete our page as not being noteworthy.
There are still some references to our programming language, DASL, on the web. See, for example, https://seattlewebsitedevelopers.medium.com/what-is-dasl-84b12fe4eb15 and https://programminglanguages.info/language/distributed-application-specification-language/. My Sun Labs technical report on DASL is part of the ACM Digital Library: [1].
After discovering that my article had be deleted, I searched for my language and found this LinkedIn article https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/ace-dasl-distributed-application-specification-language-santosh-kumar which contains a jumble of misinformation, along with a decent summary of what the language was about. I have filed a report with LinkedIn regarding the fact that the article is full of misinformation about the origins of DASL.
I don't know where the deleter searched, but the conclusion that our language is not "noteworthy" is false.

@Nissenbenyitskhak: Done – as a contested proposed deletion, the article has been restored upon request.
However, as this would be eligible for deletion immediately upon its restoration, I have chosen to instead draftify it as Draft:Distributed Application Specification Language. This will provide you the time and space to address the issue(s) raised in the PROD: s: Fails WP:GNG. I could not find sufficient sourcing to establish notability
. When you have done so, please do not move this into main article space yourself, but instead submit it for further review. I note that the article was not in an acceptable state and should have been rewritten regardless of the PROD concerns. Please seek advice from the Teahouse for improving it, as well as assistance in addressing the PROD concerns. Further, please note that on Wikipedia notability is a highly specialize term; the PROD didn't say it wasn't noteworthy, but that it fails our General Notability Guidelines. Finally, please read WP:COI; as one of the inventors of DASL, you most certainly have a COI on this topic. I will place additional information on your user talk page. - UtherSRG (talk) 21:01, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Please remember to remove deletion tags, in this case, a PROD tag, after restoration. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 21:31, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

However, the draft namespace, though it is intended to provide some breathing room to create and develop a page without the time pressure of immediate review, is not for the indefinite hosting of material that is unsuitable for inclusion in the article mainspace. Please continue to work on the draft so that it meets Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for inclusion and then submit it for review—at the least, prior to another six months elapsing. [edit]I discovered this morning that the Wikipedia page that bears my name and reputation has been inadvertently deleted. The page has been in place for over two decades. As a living artist with a daily practice, international following and extensive resume I'm concerned that this choice was made inadvertently, without any knowledge of my career and request that it be restored. All one needs to do is to check my webpage, Vimeo page, CV, film festival activity, exhibition history (active since 1990), Discogs page where I have contributed countless sound artists with cover art, liner notes, three decades of music journalism - for some notable press. I do not feel the need to have to prove myself at this stage in my career, though I ask that you look closely into the person/s who deleted my page - perhaps it is targeted because of my affiliation with the LGBTQ community? Perhaps its something else? Please investigate and restore my page. Thank you. —TJ Norris (talk) 16:49, 6 April 2025 (UTC)

UtherSRG (talk) 10:54, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- No, there was no such pledge, and the draft is about a notable toric so there shouldn’t be any hosting issue. I don’t know when I will be working on the draft, but meantime, the draft can and should be being worked on by the community. (Note this draft is not my draft.) —- Taku (talk) 11:40, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- The draft was previously restored and ignored. It can sit in the deleted bin until you are ready to work on it. At which point, you can request restoration. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:15, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- The draft can be worked on by anyone (not necessarily by me) and there is no need to keep it deleted. Also, as a rule, I don’t think you are allowed to deny the undeletion of a draft deleted by G13; especially when there was no "pledge" that you claimed I made. —- Taku (talk) 12:30, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- I didn't claim you made the pledge. I merely claimed the pledge was made. A restoration request is such a pledge. This is actually standard procedure: when a draft is restored but unworked, we ask if the new requestor is ready to work it immediately. If so, we restore; if not, we move on. You are not ready, so I am moving on. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:35, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- And, in fact, Wikipedia:Requests_for_undeletion/Archive_399#Draft:Cartwright's_theorem it was you who requested it. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:38, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- And here is the full request “This seems to be a notable topic (according to a quick Google search I just did). The theorem is already mentioned in Mary Cartwright. So, if the draft is short, maybe it can be merged into it” so like I said, there was no pledge contrary to your claim. In any case, can you show some community consensus like an rfc that “the new requestor is ready to work it immediately. If so, we restore; if not, we move on”. Maybe that’s a new consensus I am not aware of. If there was no such rfc, it could mean you’re exceeding your authority as an admin. (And a rouge admin is a big problem you know.) —- Taku (talk) 12:46, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- I will ask again: Are you ready to do the work right now? - UtherSRG (talk) 12:49, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Meaning you now admit there was no pledge and that you’re exceeding your authority as an admin!? Wow. Anyway, I cannot quite make a firm promise: I work in Wikipedia whenever I can find time and I don’t know ahead of time whether I will have free time or not. Let me put this way: i definitely have an intention to work on drafts this one or any other drafts. But I don’t have any fixed schedule of what and when to work on them. Maybe that’s not good enough for you but like we discussed, I don’t think it’s up to you to decide good enough or not. —- Taku (talk) 13:03, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- @TakuyaMurata: It is expressly within the authority of an administrator to decline to undelete a draft that has previously been undeleted pursuant to a request on this board, and was not subsequently worked on. I would also note that the draft was just two lines, and that two mathematician Wikipedians (David Eppstein and Michael Hardy) weighed in on the draft and found it to utterly lacking and incorrect, meaning that you would probably be better off starting a new draft from scratch. BD2412 T 14:13, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Of course, an admin has the authority to decline but surely they should not do so with bogus reasons, correct? Anyway we are getting clearly off-track. I do remember the draft had an issue and I asked for the undeletion so I can see what that issue. Yes, I can start from the scratch but in that case, it can be helpful for me to be able to see the deleted content. Why is it important to keep the deleted content hidden? Basically I’m asking more for access to deleted content rather than restoring the draft. Isn’t it cheap just to undelete even if the deleted content couldn’t be used at all (the undeletion can clarify what part of the old content can be used if at all). I don’t think starting from scratch is fine but starting from the old draft isn’t allowed makes much logical sense. —- Taku (talk) 07:46, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

..if the draft is short, maybe it can be merged into it.
So what happened, after it was restored? The concern here is that undeletion requests take up admin time and effort (it is voluntary, sure, just as everything else on wikipedia is), and when requestors get a draft undeleted, ignore it once they have got it restored, and come back again after it's deleted for being ignored, and give no explanation at all, it is seen as poor use of an admin-owned workflow. Jay 💬 08:46, 8 April 2025 (UTC)- In this particular case, the merger wasn’t a good option as it turned out. In general, I can see that if the number of repeated undeletions is very high, then it can be a maintenance problem (which is actually an argument for not deleting them in the first place but let’s leave that). That’s part of the reasons why I try not to make too many undeletion requests; only a few per month in average. Also, I have a very good track record of working with drafts and so I don’t think my requests are a waste of time. Finally, in the above there is a request to start from scratch but it is usually less time consuming to start from old ones. Yes, the draft had a problem but it is actually more efficient to fix the issue than start writing from nothing (like for example, some formulas or links can be reused.) In short, there isn’t much a strong argument to keep the deleted content hidden from editors like me. —- Taku (talk) 11:40, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- We make the restoration decisions based on the draft, not on the requestor. This gives us something objective and easily quantifiable (what was the state of the draft when deleted? was the draft undeleted previously?) vs subjective and difficult to quantify (
good track record
). This isn't about you. It's about standards and practices. And if you haven't understood yet, about 90% of the initial request responses we give are templated responses that are based on those objective data points. If the draft was G13'd but was previously declined at AFC review, we give one particular response. If the draft was (hard) deleted at AFD we give another. If the draft had previously be restored and then not worked on, we give yet another. And yes, that particular templated response includes the word "pledge". Every request for restoring a draft so that it can be worked on is a pledge to work on that draft in some way (whether it be to improve the draft so that it can be an article, or using the contents of the draft to merge into an existing article); restoring a draft just for the sake of having it available is not a valid restoration request. UtherSRG (talk) 11:59, 8 April 2025 (UTC)- I think I get: the process is automated. But some particular requests do require somehow less automated responses, I think. A draft like this is a good example. I am one of few editors who work on drafts not necessarily started by themselves. For those, “restoring a draft just for the sake of having it available” should be a valid restoration request for the reason I already explained above (and should have the community support for it). If it is fine to start from scratch, why is it necessary deny the restoration of an old draft. Yes, admin times are valuable but so are the times for some of very productive editors like me. It’s simply more convenient and productive for me to be able to access deleted content. Yes, that’s not a typical undeletion request, but some requests are atypical. And I think my atypical request aren’t too numerous to handle in less automated fashions. And I intentionally don’t use a standard template to indicate the requests are atypical ones from atypical editors. That is, if it becomes clear that a standard response is not appropriate, can you give some more nuanced responses in some rare occupations? I think that should be quite possible; BUT if not possible, I still understand it (although in such a case, I would strongly believe the responses would be wrong like here right now). I mean: you do agree that it’s quite bizarre that it’s fine to start from scratch but not from an old draft, right? —- Taku (talk) 12:15, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

- We make the restoration decisions based on the draft, not on the requestor. This gives us something objective and easily quantifiable (what was the state of the draft when deleted? was the draft undeleted previously?) vs subjective and difficult to quantify (
- In this particular case, the merger wasn’t a good option as it turned out.
- I will ask again: Are you ready to do the work right now? - UtherSRG (talk) 12:49, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- The draft was previously restored and ignored. It can sit in the deleted bin until you are ready to work on it. At which point, you can request restoration. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:15, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Games like Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 or Venus Vacation Prism: Dead or Alive Xtreme aren't Japan-only games since they have been released in South East Asia and Korea as well. It would be incorrect to label them as Japan-exclusive games. —Jotamide (talk) 22:56, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

- However, as this would be eligible for deletion immediately upon its restoration, I have chosen to instead draftify it as Draft:Pediatrix Medical Group. This will provide you the time and space to address the issue(s) raised in the deletion discussion. When you have done so, please do not move this into main article space yourself, but instead submit it for further review. - UtherSRG (talk) 02:09, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
